You will need:

  • Heating element (microwave is O.K.)
  • Water to cover the device
  • Container
  • Tongs
  • Scissors
  • Timer

Heating

The inner lining will be soft throughout its entire thickness when heated thoroughly.

Cooling

While the Snore GuardÒ is cooling, mark the center with a marking pen. (Note: A clear bubble indicates the center of the upper trough.)  Center the mark in the midline between teeth #8 and #9.  Cooling too long results in the soft material becoming too hard, making insertion difficult.  Not cooling long enough can result in burning the patient. To test, place the soft material against your skin.

Fitting

The bite should be as close to centric as possible.  As the dentist’s discretion, it may be necessary to move the mandible slightly protrusive to give the patient more area to bite.  Snore GuardÒ may be reheated up to 2 times after the first trial.

Trimming
The easiest and most efficient time to trim the Snore Guard
Ò is immediately after it is removed from the mouth.

With scissors cut away any soft plastic:

  • From the upper tray, the material extruded above the hard tray rim;
  • From the lower ramp, the material that extrudes labially and in the front of the lower anteriors; and
  • From the orifice in the middle of the Snore GuardÒ
Patient Advise

For the first few nights, put in the Snore GuardÒ for 15 minutes before sleep to get used to wearing it. It generally takes 2 to 3 nights to become accustomed to wearing the appliance. Do not wear the appliance if it is uncomfortable or causing any pain. (Some soreness of the jaw muscle is normal for the first few nights.) After wearing the Snore GuardÒ upon waking, brush with toothpaste and rinse, then store in the container provided.
